September 15 | 6pm | Wavertree | Free
Come aboard the 1885 tall ship Wavertree at the Seaport Museum for a delightful evening of theater, community, and climate action.
Flood Sensor Aunty tells the story of a flood sensor working at her aunt’s chai shop who dreams of becoming a movie star. Blending laugh-out-loud theater with community disaster preparedness, this unique show highlights how the best defense against flooding, climate change, and despair is connection with your neighbors.
The program, which is a great precursor to Climate Week NYC, will include a welcome from the Museum, the family-friendly performance, and an engaging talk-back conversation. Advanced registration is encouraged for this event but walkups will be accommodated as possible. Access to Wavertree involves climbing a few stairs, walking up an angled gangway, and descending a few stairs onto the deck. The program is rain or shine.

About Waterfront Alliance
Waterfront Alliance has been leading the charge in how the New York metropolitan region views and uses its harbor for more than a decade and a half. With more than 1,100 Alliance Partners committed to bringing real change to our region’s 700+ miles of coastline, the Waterfront Alliance stepped into a new and critical leadership role to inform and challenge the region’s response to sea level rise and coastal storms. Our crucial, long-term focus is on increasing waterfront accessibility for all, advocating for a working waterfront that is a vital source of business activity, preparing our most-impacted communities for the climate crisis, and educating the next generation of waterfront stewards. We achieve change through collaborations, education, our own initiatives and campaigns, and by inspiring others to become changemakers.
About FiDi and Seaport Climate Resilience Plan
Resilience+ approach will protect NYC from climate change while enhancing the waterfront to include new public open space, resilient ferry terminals, new stormwater management systems, and accessibility.
About the 1885 Tall Ship Wavertree
Wavertree was built at Southampton, England, in 1885 and, after a 24-year sailing career and circumnavigating the globe at least three times, is now the last remaining iron-hulled three-masted full-rigged cargo ship. Today, Wavertree is visited by guests of all ages from around the globe and serves as the centerpiece of the “Street of Ships” at the Seaport Museum. She was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 13, 1978 and symbolizes the profound influence of sailing ships, their intrepid sailors, and the bustling waterfront in shaping New York City into a modern metropolis. As a historic vessel with a fascinating past, Wavertree embodies the rich maritime heritage that played a pivotal role in transforming South Street into the vibrant heart of “Where New York Begins.”
